Create an account and sign in

One account for your tests, practice, games and progress. Sign in with a link sent to your email, a password, or Google.

Your BrainTally account keeps everything in one place: every test you take, your practice, your progress in general knowledge and vocabulary, and your game scores. It's free to create and needs no card.

Sign in or create an account#

There's no separate sign-up form. Enter your email: if it's new to us, we create your account; if we know it, we sign you in.

  1. Press Sign in at the top of any page.

Sign in and Take the test are at the top right of every page.
  2. Choose how to sign in. Sign-in link is the default: enter your email and press Send sign-in link.

Sign in with a link sent to your email, or switch to Password.
  3. Open the email and press the link. You're signed in on that device.

  4. The first time, we ask for your first name (it goes on your certificate and in our emails) and two optional questions. Then you're on your dashboard.

Other ways to sign in#

  • Password. Choose the Password tab and enter your email (or your username) and password. You can set a password any time from Profile → Security, even if you've only ever used links.
  • Google. When it's available, Continue with Google appears above the form. We only use your name and email address from Google.
  • Username. Once you've chosen a username in Profile, you can type it instead of your email on the Password tab.

Forgot your password? Press Forgot password? on the Password tab and we'll email you a link to set a new one.

Two-step sign-in#

If you've turned on two-step sign-in, BrainTally asks for the 6-digit code from your authenticator app after your password. You can use a backup code instead. See Two-step sign-in.

Staying signed in#

You stay signed in on a device until you sign out or the session ends. Your account can only be signed in on a limited number of devices at once: signing in somewhere new can sign out the device you used longest ago, and we tell you when that happens. The Security page shows the limit for your account.

Trouble signing in?#

  • No email arrived? Check spam or promotions, and check you typed the address correctly. Then ask for a new link.
  • "Sign in to continue" when starting a test? That email already has an account, so sign in first and the test continues.
  • Signed out unexpectedly? Your account was probably signed in on another device. If that wasn't you, change your password straight away; that signs out every other device.

Still stuck? The team usually replies within one business day.
