Take the scored test
Four categories, 12 questions, about 15 minutes. How to start, answer, and hand in the test, and what happens if you're interrupted.
The standard test covers verbal reasoning, logical reasoning, spatial reasoning and numerical reasoning: 12 questions in all. Most people finish in about 15 minutes. Taking it is free, and your overall score is always free to see.
Before you start#
- Find a quiet place and about 15 minutes you won't be interrupted.
- A computer or tablet is easiest; some questions are pictures.
- There's no penalty for a wrong answer, so answer every question.
- There's a 30 minutes limit. The start page says so before you begin.
Start the test#
-
Press Take the test at the top of any page, or Take an assessment on your dashboard.
-
Signed in? Press Begin the assessment. If your account doesn't have a first name yet, you're asked for one first: it goes on your certificate.
-
Not signed in? Enter your first name and email, then press Begin the assessment. Your result and certificate are sent to that email, and it becomes your BrainTally account. If the email already has an account, you're asked to sign in first.
Answering#
All the questions are on one page. Pick an answer for each; you can change any answer until you hand in.
- The bar at the top shows how many you've answered.
- Jump to the next unanswered takes you to the next question you haven't answered.
- Every answer is saved the moment you choose it. If one doesn't reach us, we tell you, and it's sent again when you hand in.
- Spotted a problem with a question? Press Report beside it. It doesn't affect your test.
Handing in#
Submit assessment unlocks when every question has an answer. In the last minute you can also hand in what you have: unanswered questions count as wrong.
The clock appears beside the button for the last five minutes. If it reaches zero, the test is handed in automatically with the answers you've given; nothing is lost. Your results page says if an attempt ran out of time or was handed in early, because that score isn't comparable with a complete attempt.
If you're interrupted#
Close the tab or lose your connection, and you can carry on: press Finish it beside the test under Your assessments on your dashboard (or start the same test again) and you're back on the same questions, with your answers and the same clock. If time ran out while you were away, the test is scored with what you'd answered.
